Bromeliad inflorescences evolved bright tubular reds specifically to advertise to this visual system. This painting renders the bromeliad in a palette of pinks, magentas, teals, and yellows, gesturing at hues the medium cannot reproduce. The central yellow-and-violet form sits where the bird's eye would meet the flower (not represented).
