Note
Helicopter damselflies breed in the pools of water that collect at the center of bromeliads, and read the world through compound eyes with regional spectral specialization. The dorsal portion is tuned to short wavelengths, UV and blue, for tracking prey against the sky. The ventral portion shifts toward middle and longer wavelengths for navigating among foliage. This painting renders the bromeliad in a unified cool palette dominated by the dorsal range, with small yellow-green and pink incidents toward the lower leaves referencing the ventral shift. The vertical organization of the composition follows the eye's own gradient.
