Note
Dart frogs are diurnal tetrachromats with cone sensitivities spanning UV, blue, green, and red. Unlike most frogs, they have lost the dual rod system that supports nighttime color vision. Their world is the bright understory, which they read through saturated discrete signals. This painting renders the bromeliad in a frog cone palette weighted toward the spectral extremes: yellows, violets, and a red center marking the chromatic significance of the pooling place. The compressed green-blue middle and the bounded, high-contrast color fields approximate a perceptual world organized around close-range identification rather than atmospheric depth.
